World Economic Forum 2026: Newsom, Macron, and Europe’s Crisis of Cowardice

The World Economic Forum in Davos just wrapped up, and what we witnessed was not diplomacy but surrender. California Governor Gavin Newsom flew to Switzerland to lecture European leaders about standing up to Donald Trump, while Emmanuel Macron perfected the art of political cowardice by praising Trump in private texts and attacking him publicly from the stage. The global elite gathered in the Swiss Alps to wring their hands about American assertiveness while financing Vladimir Putin’s war machine with their own energy purchases. The contradiction is breathtaking, and Jim Pfaff pulls no punches in exposing it.

World Economic Forum Showdown: Newsom’s European Identity Crisis
Gavin Newsom showed up at the World Economic Forum with a message for European leaders: “Buck up. Stand tall. Have a backbone.” He complained about world leaders “rolling over” and said he should have brought knee pads to hand out. The irony was lost on no one paying attention. Here’s a governor whose state doesn’t have real elections anymore, lecturing foreign leaders about democratic principles.
“Democrats want to be Europeans. Actually, they don’t quite want to be Europeans. They don’t want to be that good. They want to be Maoist communists, but that’s what they really aspire to.”
— Jim Pfaff, President, The Conservative Caucus
What Newsom revealed at Davos wasn’t courage. It was an identity confession. When an American governor travels overseas to rally foreign nations against an American president, he’s telling you where his loyalties lie. He’s not advocating for California interests or American interests. He’s signaling to the global establishment that he’s one of them.
Consider the California political machine Newsom represents. They appointed Kamala Harris without a competitive nomination process. They removed Joe Biden without democratic input. Their jungle primary system and unlimited mail ballot gathering have made genuine political competition virtually impossible. This is the man telling Europeans to have principles.
The Democrat Power Playbook
Newsom’s Davos appearance reveals the Democrat strategy: high taxation, industry shutdowns, Green New Deal power grabs, and a lust for control over citizens that has nothing to do with elections or representation. It’s about putting power into the hands of politicians and taking it away from citizens.
Macron’s Two-Faced Diplomacy Exposed
Donald Trump did something unprecedented during the World Economic Forum gathering. He posted Emmanuel Macron’s private text messages on Truth Social. The texts revealed a Macron desperate to align with Trump: “We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do understand what you are doing on Greenland. Let’s try to build great things.”
Then Macron walked onto the Davos stage and attacked Trump publicly, complaining about American “bullying” and tariffs that are “fundamentally unacceptable.” He spoke of preferring “respect to bullies” and “rule of law to brutality.” The French president performed his duplicity in real-time for the world to see.
“Macron is a puny wimp, as are all the country leaders in Europe. They’re puny wimps. The EU runs things, and these guys just kind of show up and do what they want to do. They have no influence anymore.”
— Jim Pfaff, President, The Conservative Caucus
This isn’t the first time Macron has played this game. During Trump’s first administration, he came to the United States to praise the American people, then spent years trying to undermine Trump diplomatically. At the last UN General Assembly, Trump left Macron stuck on the streets of New York while his motorcade passed. The French president was literally standing on a street corner, unable to get Trump’s attention.
Macron’s talk of “collective governance” sounds diplomatic until you examine what it means. How is this collective assembled? Can members voluntarily leave? The answer from the European left is always the same: you will do what we say, and we will order society to make sure it happens. That’s not governance. That’s socialism dressed up in diplomatic language.
Greenland and the Myth of Danish Sovereignty
Canadian politician Mark Carney decided to weigh in on the Greenland debate at Davos, declaring that Canada “stands firmly with Greenland and Denmark” and “fully supports their unique right to determine Greenland’s future.” This from a man who matters only because the World Economic Forum gave him a microphone.
The sovereignty argument collapses under scrutiny. Denmark claimed Greenland, but claiming territory means nothing if you cannot secure it. Denmark is incapable of defending Greenland from Russian or Chinese incursion. The United States is entirely capable of securing it. The island sits practically on America’s border. Every strategic and security calculation favors American control.
“Donald Trump is right on the Greenland issue. He’s 100% right. And don’t talk about sovereignty of Denmark when it comes to Greenland. Denmark claimed Greenland any much more than we might be trying to claim it. The only difference is Denmark is incapable of securing Greenland. We are.”
— Jim Pfaff, President, The Conservative Caucus
Carney’s support for Danish sovereignty is really support for Russian and Chinese interests. When Canada’s security is tied directly to Greenland’s security, siding with Denmark against America is strategic malpractice. Trump has stopped eight wars. What have the Europeans accomplished? Nothing. Trump’s foreign policy record is 1-0 over Carney and the entire European establishment.
Ilhan Omar’s $30 Million Question
The House Oversight Committee has launched an investigation into Representative Ilhan Omar’s finances, and the numbers demand explanation. Her husband’s venture capital firm reported $1,000 in assets in 2023. One year later: $25 million. His winery went from $50,000 to $5 million in the same period. Despite these disclosures, Omar posted on X that she “barely has thousands, let alone millions.”
Omar claims she’s being targeted, but targeting happens when you paint the target on your own back. There are real questions about her citizenship and how she obtained it. Her pattern of standing up for Somali interests against American interests violates her oath to the Constitution. The fraud unfolding in Minnesota right now is happening in her district, among her most loyal supporters.
As our coverage of the Minnesota Feeding Our Future scandal documented, Omar authored the Meals Act in 2020, which loosened oversight on food programs during COVID. Federal prosecutors say one of those programs stole $250 million through fake meal sites. The potential complicity is staggering.
Congressional Accountability Problem
Congressional investigations rarely produce consequences unless they become criminal investigations. James Comer is doing good work, but without the Trump administration following through on referrals, these efforts become mere political theater. Something should be done about members of Congress who enrich themselves through their positions.
Academia’s War on Rational Thought
The University of Kansas will offer a course next year titled “Angry White Male Studies,” examining “the rise of the angry white male in America and Britain since the 1950s.” Students thought it was a joke when they saw it in the course catalog. It wasn’t.
Notice what this course doesn’t examine: the anger visible in Minneapolis after George Floyd, the rage driving the Minnesota fraud networks, or the woman caught on video attacking a man before getting pepper-sprayed. Anger is human. Six thousand years of recorded human history prove the moral corruption of mankind. That’s why governments exist in the first place. Singling out one demographic for academic pathologization reveals the ideological agenda.
“The problem of anger is a human one. It’s not either race-based or gender-based.”
— Jim Pfaff, President, The Conservative Caucus
Universities were created in Western culture to inject information that helps people understand basic cultural norms, beginning with theological studies. The famous academic saying held that theology was the queen of the sciences, with science as her handmaiden. Why? Because Western culture understood that God created the universe for His purposes, and science existed to understand the mind behind creation.
The book everyone should read is The Trivium, which covers the liberal arts of logic, grammar, and rhetoric. These studies formed the foundation for teaching humanities for centuries. They enabled critical thinking and perspective on the world. If universities returned to this foundation, including theological studies and the foundations of natural law from Aquinas, we would understand the whole root and purpose of Western natural law that brought freedom to human beings.
Europe Has Abandoned Every Principle of Liberty
Trump isn’t trying to weaken Europe. Europe’s weakness is internal, and it is entirely self-inflicted. Scott Bessent pointed out the obvious contradiction at Davos: Europe is still buying Russian oil four years into the Ukraine war. They are literally financing the war against themselves.
“It is for want of this that illogical way of thinking is propagated. We have abandoned rationality in the west. We have a relativistic society that promotes the pursuit of power, the pursuit of sex, the pursuit of selfish internal desires as the authoritative force in the universe as opposed to the moral law of God.”
— Jim Pfaff, President, The Conservative Caucus
This irrationality stems from moral relativism. When society rejects objective reality and the moral law, logical consistency becomes impossible. On one hand, Europe claims to support Ukraine. On the other hand, they won’t get energy from the United States because it might require political concessions. So they make deals with Putin instead.
Europe has abandoned every principle of liberty they claimed to fight for in World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. America still holds those principles, though we’re hanging by a thread. There is no concept of freedom left in this world except what exists here. Donald Trump is asserting what America is about, and his pushback against Europe is exactly right.
Putin himself observed what’s happening. When asked how European leaders will behave with Trump, he said: “You’ll see it will happen quickly soon. They will all stand at the feet of the master and will gently wag their tails. Everything will fall into place.” Even Russia’s leader understands that European leadership has collapsed.
Key Takeaways
- Newsom at Davos revealed Democrat identity – When an American governor rallies foreign leaders against an American president, he’s declaring where his loyalties lie. The Democrat Party is not an American party.
- Macron’s duplicity is documented – Private texts praising Trump, public speeches attacking him. European leaders lack the courage to be consistent.
- Greenland is about security, not sovereignty – Denmark cannot defend Greenland. America can. Strategic reality trumps diplomatic niceties.
- Omar investigation is overdue – $30 million in unexplained wealth gains while she authored legislation loosening fraud oversight. The target is on her own back.
- Academia has abandoned rationality – “Angry White Male Studies” replaces the Trivium. Universities have lost their purpose.
- Europe finances its own destruction – Buying Russian oil while claiming to oppose Russia. Moral relativism makes logical consistency impossible.
